The Board of County Commissioners - Roles and Purpose
Under the Oklahoma Constitution, County Commissioners are the elected officials in charge of administrating county business. In Oklahoma, every county is divided into three different districts that are equal in population. Each district elects a citizen to the Board of County Commissioners . The Responsibilities of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) are established by Oklahoma Statues.
A brief overview of responsibilities,
Administer public funds and fiscal policy.
Act as purchasing agent for the county government.
Provide office space for county officers
Creation and oversight of public trusts
Set personnel policies (including employee compensation, retirement packages and healthcare)
Maintain roads and bridges
Hold public bond hearings
Appoint members to county boards.
